On 11 December, Sotheby’s is auctioning an American first edition of Through the Looking Glass and what Alice found there.
This first edition is a ‘re-covered’ copy, meaning it has gotten a new dust-jacket, designed by Peter Blake.
The book has the original pictorial brown cloth gilt. It was publised in Boston by Lee and Shepard, and in New York by Lee, Shepard, and Dillingham, in 1872. It includes the typo “wade” in stead of “wabe” on page 21.
Estimated price: 2,000 to 3,000 GBP
This is a charity auction, raising money for The House of Illustration.
