I PMed this to another forum member who was asking the same question, so I'll copy & paste it here:

Hullo there

To put pictures in your posts you need to have an account with an image hosting site such as ImageShack or PhotoBucket (It's free to register)

I use PhotoBucket

http://photobucket.com/

Upload the image you want to use to your image hosting site then copy and paste the IMG Code into your post - and that's it! You just need to click 'Submit'

If you need any more help don't hesitate to ask (I'm not brilliant at it myself, but I'm sure we can muddle through between us)

Good luck

Oh Em Gee

I just realised how to post pictures directly from the web without having to download them and then upload them to an image site

If there's a picture on Google images you want to post, click it, then click 'Full-size image'
Right click on the address bar and copy the image's address
Get back to Lenny's, right click and paste the address into your comment box
Highlight the address then click the 'Img' button above the box
Click 'Submit'

Ta-daa

*image deleted for reasons explained below*

You shouldn't do that - it's called "hotlinking", and it's not fair on the original site.

http://altlab.com/hotlinking.html

Some sites will automatically block you from linking to the image to prevent this, and additionally they could move, rename or delete the picture at any time and it'll be lost from your post as well.

OH! So THAT'S what hotlinking is (and how it's done)

I knew it was considered pretty uncool - particularly by the people whose bandwith you're stealing, but I didn't know how to do it so I didn't realise that that was what I'd done (and was advocating)

OK folks, forget the last post about posting images, it's not big and it's not clever (I just thought it was (:-O )

If using free photobucket you need to pay attention to bandwidth. If exceeded the pics will be deleted in the posts. use multiple accounts, thats what I do sometimes.

Otherwise hotlink. Everyone is doing it so why not.

Because it's not the right thing to do.

(By the way, Beautiful Soup, should you be editing your post to delete that image?)

I wasn't sure TBH. I deleted the other one I posted (in a different thread) but left that one as it illustrated what we were talking about

But I'll take it out if you think that would be better

EDIT There. Gone now :)

Perhaps. Or perhaps you could just be nice, and do something that's both the right thing and easy to do - it's not like it's a lot of effort to add pictures to Photobucket.

Or perhaps you could at least keep it to yourself, and not go around encouraging it anonymously on the Internet.

Its not a lot of effort but I don't want to be paying attention to the bandwidth everytime I post pics. Not to mention paying for it.

I don't need to encourage it... everyone knows about it. Sorry, perhaps I don't fit into your sacred way of thinking.

You don't want to worry about your free bandwidth, so you'll make someone else worry about it for you, and pay for it? That's just lovely of you.

And "sacred"? I'll take it as a compliment. Thanks.

I was intending to, or certainly to end it at the next post. Sorry, Lenny.
