Desperately Seeking Sources

Postby Peppertarts » Tue Nov 19, 2013 10:10 am

Well, look who finally decided to show her face back on the forum! :) Who missed me? *tumbleweed* Fair enough. My return has come about because I'm in need of your help regarding my schoolwork.

Thus then in brief:
For my Extended Project I'm investigating different interpretations of the Alice books, and unfortunately, this includes seeing if there is any stock to be put into the drug/sexual references theory. Oddly enough, this is the one that I'm finding difficulty procuring sources for. So, if anyone knows of any essays/theories (from as early as possible) on this topic, other than the ones on this website, and would be so kind as to point me in the right direction, I would be much obliged.

Tally ho, chaps!

'Aspects of Alice' edited by Robert Phillips is the best known book about the meaning(s) of Alice (that I'm aware of)

It's a collection of essays by various authors, including Freudian and Jungian interpretations (so I'm assuming sexual) plus a couple of psychedelic ones for good measure
In what the 'Sunday Times' calls 'an entralling collection of essays', Robert Phillips presents a collection of critical responses to 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Alice Through the Looking Glass'. From W.H.Auden (Alice symbolises what everyone, in the end, would like to become) and T.Fensch (Alice was the first acidhead), to Virginia Woolf, Walter de la Mare, Robert Graves, and William Empson, the critics here offer a spectrum of opinion and shed fascinating insights onto these timeless classics.
