Translating Alice

Postby Melissa L » Mon Mar 09, 2015 12:16 pm

Hi!
I'm doing a dissertation on Bilingual editions of Alice in Wonderland and wanted to ask if anyone knew why Lewis Carroll asked Henri Bué to translated his work into French. I read in an article that he was the one who initiated the first three translations in German, Italian and French but I cannot find why.
Thanks in advance!

Michael Everson is easily the best informed person on Alice translations who posts here - His company, Evertype, publishes the book in numerous languages

If I were you, I'd be tempted to contact him via his twitter or facebook, and see if he has any words of wisdom to share

Perhaps the book ''Alice in many tongues" by Warren Weaver has some information about this?
