What colour is the Cheshire Cat?
Hello all. I'm an artist, working on an Alice in Wonderland themed commission. I'm trying to find out what colour the Cheshire cat actually is. Is he described in the book at all? (I don't want to just copy from Disney or Burton!) Thanks,
Re: What colour is the Cheshire Cat?
It is only being described as "large", and as follows: "It looked good- natured, she thought: still it had VERY long claws and a great many teeth, so she felt that it ought to be treated with respect."
And there's the black and white illustration, which shows that it is striped.

The *Tenniel approved* colour illustrations for The Nursery Alice show him as brown, but I think you can make him any colour you want

I always imagined him as brown, but it's really up to individual interpretation.

I picture him being a brown or red tabby.
