units of measurement
As an American I'm not bothered that "inches" and "feet" are used in the Alice books. The rest of the world, including the UK, uses Metric measurements. Is that a problem with reading the Alice books now?
Re: units of measurement
Yes, but that does not only go for the 'Alice' books. By now I know how many centimetres an inch is by head, but other measurements I'll have to google.
However, one can read the 'Alice' books and most other books fine without knowing the exact size that is being referred to. It's a different matter when you have to read sewing patterns and such.

Re: units of measurement
Although the UK is officially metric, in day to day life we still frequently think and speak in imperial. We pretty much use both systems
