|
| |
As some of you may have noticed, the website now has a totally new lay-out!
I am planning on integrating the forum lay-out into the website lay-out as well, but that could take some more time.
I removed the old "What's new?" page, and decided to post all updates in this topic.
If you find any bugs, dead links, or something else that doesn't work correctly, let me know!
Unfortunately there are a few bugs in Internet Explorer (where else... ) which I just cannot solve. I'm afraid we'll have to live with it until the browsers start behaving like we want them to!
Of course I'd also really like to hear from you if you like the new lay-out! And if not, what I should improve.
Former updates:
3 December 2007
Added a text about similarities between Holiday House and the Alice stories to the Story Origins page.
1 December 2007
Added a 'Gift ideas' page to the story, in case you cannot think of any good presents for your friends or yourself. I also updated the link page.
12 September 2007
You can now also download the full story of both "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass and what Alice found there", including Tenniel's illustrations, in Adobe PDF format from the on-line texts page!
10 September 2007
I did something I should have done a long time ago: I replaced all the old, blurry Disney images (which I took from my VHS tape when there were no DVD's yet) with brand new screencaps from my DVD! I also categorized them by character, so they are easier to find if you're looking for a specific picture.
22 August 2007
Made the pages printer friendly! No need to press a 'click here for a printer friendly version' link, just hit the 'print' button in your browser!
19 August 2007
Information about the poem Jabberwocky has been moved to its own page. The character description pages now also link to more extensive character desciption pages focussed on the most popular characters. Finally, the illustrations of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland have been replaced with better quality pictures.
31 July 2007
I added breadcrumbs on all pages, to make navigation easier and to give visitors a better sense of their location in the site.
29 July 2007
After hours and hours of work, and sleepless nights, my on-line shop is finally ready! As an associate (affiliate) of Amazon, I used to just link directly to their items. Now you can browse the shop and its items on my website, and you'll only have to visit the Amazon website when you check out!
12 July 2007
I changed the link, visited link and link hover colors, to make the contrast bigger. Not sure yet if I like it this way... I shall try to get used to it during the next days. Or I'll change it right back.
4 July 2007
To make it more clear what you can find on this site, I expanded the boxes on the right of the homepage, and moved them to the middle of the page.
3 July 2007
I expanded the advanced search page with several search tips.
1 July 2007
A search box has been added on top of the page, in stead of just a link to the search page. I had to re-order the menu somewhat to make it fit. I also expanded the links on the topic index page - it now also contains links to pages on a lower level, to make them more easily accessible.
10 April 2007
I signed up for the Amazon.co.uk associate program as well, making it easier / cheaper for European visitors to buy items from the shop.
20 March 2007
The shopping section has been somewhat redesigned, and, more notably, expanded with lots of item descriptions and some reviews.
20 February 2007
I changed the images containing the heading texts to real texts with the help of sIFR. I also tried to make the homepage more easily readable, and added a 'most popular' sidebox to it.
16 January 2007
Several small updates during the last couple of days... I improved the pictures section for better indexing in Google images. I also expanded the FAQ page with several great tips from visitors for throwing your own unbirthday party. Made some additions to the shopping section as well.

Today I added lots of information to the 'Picture Origins' section.
I also supplemented the 'Poem Origins' page with info about the origin of 'Tweedledee and Tweedledum'.
Finally, a text called 'the truth about Alice', about how the Alice books could be a satire about the Wars of the Roses, was added to the 'Explanations' section.

|
| |
Well.. for returning visitors this update should be hard to miss: I finally matched the forum lay-out to that of the website!
Now you don't have the feeling you're leaving the website anymore; the forum is really part of it.
I have tested the new lay-out, but there may still be some bugs in it. If you come upon any strange things, do let me know!

I asked two friends to test my site, which helped me to determine which parts needed improvement.
Amongst other things, I added several helpful links to the homepage and other pages, enlarged the thumbnails on the picture pages, and clarified forum error messages and fields.
I also added several new items to the webshop.

Apparently not everyone thought the 'easy browsing' option on the picture pages was easy... So I replaced it with a script. You can now click on the thumbnail images and a larger image will appear on the same page. You can also immediately browse through all the full size versions using the arrows.
For now I have implemented it on the Tenniel pictures pages only, but when I have time I will do the Disney movie images page and the other image pages as well.
I hope it is easier to use now.

I re-scanned all the illustrations from Through the Looking Glass. You can now find them in a larger resolution. They are still not brilliant scans, however, because the book I scanned them from didn't really print the illustrations nicely.

I implemented a new internal search engine.
The ads are now gone, and also the search results are grouped by website section.

New design!!
I listened to your feedback about the scrollbar and fixed menu, and other things that you thought were confusing. I hope this design works good for everyone.
Some things may not work 100% correctly yet. Please inform me of any anomalies, dead links, and other errors. And do let me know what you think of this layout!

I expanded the page with Alice in Wonderland party ideas a great deal.
I also added Carroll's wordplay on the word 'jam' to the Story Origins page (thank you, NeVar AsK, for pointing that out)

I expanded some information on the pages about the Mouse's tail (Poem Origins), mistakes in Tenniel's illustrations (Trivia), and a reference to the game 'Animal-vegetable-mineral' (Story Origins)

A category called 'Home decoration' was added to the shop. You can find it under the 'Miscellaneaous' category

I found some really cool animated icons at this site and added some of them to the forum avatar gallery, so you can easily use them here as well.
I didn't see any contact information, so I wasn't able to ask permission. If you are or know the author, please send me a message.
