A visual treat
I just recieved and watched the new DVD: Alice A look into Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, & at the curious relationship between Alice Liddle & Lewis Carroll. (Not the most catchy of titles). However I would have to recomend this film.

Having just finished Jenny Woolf's The Mystery of Lewis Carroll I have to admit I was somewhat biased, and found the first part of the video lacking the depth of the book. But I did immediately appreciate the addition of a visual component; both old photos and film clips as well as modern footage of Christ Church.

The documentary explores different areas such as litterary influences on Carrolls work. And very effectively uses the 1915 silent film of Alice, (which I found delightful) as a back drop for retelling the Wonderland story. Although it mentions that Looking-Glass was actually the more sucessful of the books it is only briefly touched on, and The Hunting of the Snark gets only a passing mention.

I don't claim to be a Carroll scholar, but I found the material to be well presented and enjoyable. It would be a worthy addition to the library of those who spend a fair amount of their time on this wonderful website.
