Wonderland: The Place

Postby panjawaii » Wed Dec 09, 2015 1:29 am

I am wondering if there are any references to "Wonderland" as a place that pre-date the Carolian reference. In Canada, for example, there is a children's theme park "Canada's Wonderland" outside Toronto. https://www.canadaswonderland.com/plan-a-visit . Did Lewis Carol coin the term himself and introduce it to the English lexicon as he did with the word "chortle" in Jabberwocky, or is "Wonderland" a place that predates "Through the Looking Glass"?
