Songs about Alice

Postby Ziano » Sun Jun 08, 2008 5:09 pm

I thought we could suggest or better post all the songs we know are about Alice or relatives. This way we can make our song list at home. I know a few. Those are:

Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit

Symphony X - Through The Looking Glass

Serú Giran - Canción De Alicia En El País (an argentinian band)

Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side

I've got to go know, but when I come back I'll post the lyrics of this songs.

Here are the lyrics for the ones I told before

White Rabbit

One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all.
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall.
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall,
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call.
Call Alice
When she was just small.
When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low.
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know.
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead,
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said:
"Feed your head. Feed your head. Feed your head"

Through The Looking Glass

[Part I:]
Look to the other side, reach the undefined
Curious to what she doesn't know
Step through the empty air, reveal what wasn't there
A fantasy-her looking glass world

Is it as it seems? Or just a dream within a dream
(dream within, dream within a dream)

Like she's been here before, locked behind the door
Held within the grasp of mystic hands
Everything's so strange, the same but rearranged
Through a bird's eye view-Can it all be true?

The final answer she seeks, with the three to be crowned Queen
Essence of rule divides the land-YEAH!

Dark shape, above in the sky, captures her prismatic eye
Again she walks in wonder, With no, with no tearful good-byes

[Part II:]
Alice...Alice...Run Alice...Run

And there she stood, in misery
Searching for the final ring within
A dream, (dream within a dream)

Dream within a dream

"I'm not afraid..."

[Part III:]
Scepter in hand-all the numbers so deceiving
The small dreaming child who wears the crown
Watches the pieces falling down

Like knights in the game-her next move is so unsure
'Waken the Queen of Nevermore
Hidden behind the royal doors

White on her right, Red on her left
Talking in riddles, on ears fallen deaf

"Stop with all the lies", all the questions so confusing
Answer the riddles they deny, losing hope, the child cries

Dream on...
Do you believe...all the things that you're seeing are true?
The start's where the end's leading you
Do you believe...all's as twisted as one would perceive?
Seek the answers...and soon you'll believe

The royal child, in a rage of desperate fury
Shattering all that lies before, screaming dolls fall to the floor
Now remove the masque, that's obscuring this dimension
Illusions so clear to me now, her invention is unwound

Escape the dream- like an unwritten book
There at my feet-lies the knight, the queen and the rook

Dream on...
Do you believe...all the things that you're seeing are true?
The start's where the end's leading you
Do you believe...all's as twisted as one would perceive?
Seek the answers...and soon you'll believe

Dream on...
Do you believe...all the things that you're seeing are true?
The start's where the end's leading you
Do you believe...all's as twisted as one would perceive?
Seek the answers...and soon you'll believe

Hmmm....very interesting. When I have time, I'll look for those songs and listen to them a bit. And if I find more, I'll post them here.

I'd never heard of any of those except the one by The Jefferson Airplanes. I'll be sure to download the others.

I'd like to add 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds' and 'I am the Walrus' (both by the Beatles) to the list.

I'm also sure that the Gwen Stefani video "What Are You Waiting For?" is based on her designer's version of AiW if I'm not mistaken.

I've been doing this... I posted a link to a playlist in the Jabberwocky forum of Alice related songs... some anyways... if you want me to add more songs to it, just ask. :D Some songs on it are also not AIW related, but just ones I think are cute or funny. It's the playlist I use for my AIW fanfic story blog.

Here's the link to the playlist:

I've updated the playlist, it's only Alice related songs now. I have added all the songs mentioned in this topic, as well. Enjoy!! :D

I also use this playlist for my fanfic blog, so I kinda have to keep the songs... dark. Thank you for introducing me to Symphony X!!! I L.O.V.E. them! Unfortunately, they didn't have Through the Looking Glass on their site.... I haven't gotten to hear that one yet... :(

Miss Bambee

Lyrics for 'Alice' songs

Postby Miss Bambee » Wed Oct 15, 2008 10:48 am

I bought a copy of Blunt magazine about 2-3 years ago and there was a free CD with it. The CD was called "I'd Rather Be Moshing" or something like that. It was a compilation of 15 songs by alternative/metal/punk/rock bands. Didn't like any of the songs except for this one. It's by The Red Paintings and the song is The Streets Fell Into My Window.

(Spoken)
Alice was considering
(as well as she could
for the hot sun had made her very sleepy
and very stupid)
whether or not the pleasure of making a daisy chain,
would be worth the bother of getting up to pick the daisies.

When suddenly a white rabbit ran straight past her!
Now there was nothing very odd about that!
Nor did she think it out of the ordinary to hear the rabbit say
"Oh dear, I'm going to be late!"
But! When the rabbit suddenly produced a pocketwatch from out of its
Waistcoast pocket, Alice started to her feet!
For it occured to her then...
she had never before seen a rabbit with either a pocketwatch
or the waistcoat, to put it in!

(Sung)
I read that letter, just last week
you were telling me the darkness had taken you
and it had only lasted a week
I don't know where your saviour is...
Check the backroom
He's writing the book that describes the end
as you're passing this life

(Chorus)
Now I see it, it's a doorway
it's a doorway to my love
Now i see it, it's a doorway,
It's a doorway step from above
Now I see it, it's a doorway, it's a doorway to....

Little mousy,
what did you see?
Hitlers body was a raincheck given to you.
Now you sit and wait with nothing to do.
You're the innocent we're the uncomplained
Loud knocks at the door
As you're holding onto a chest of drawers,
as you're passing this life

The streets came in.
into my window.
Now the war begins my dear, I'll be holding onto nothing.
The streets came in.
Into my window
Now the war begins my dear, as you're passing this life!

Now I see it, it's a doorway
it's a doorway to my love
Now i see it, it's a doorway,
It's a doorway step from above
Now I see it, it's a doorway, it's a doorway to....

Now I see it....
It's a doorway, it's a doorway to my love!
Now I see it, it's a doorway, it's a doorway step from above
Now I see it, it's a doorway, it's a doorway to...

(Spoken)
Down, Down, Down
There was nothing to do
So Alice soon began to talk to herself again (the streets came in)
"Oh Dinah!"
(Into my window.. Now the war begins my dear)
"Oh! How i wish you were here with me."
(I'll be holding onto nothing)
"There are no mice in the air."
(The streets came in)
"But you might catch yourself a bat, I s'pose"
(into my window)
"and bats are very like mice."
(now the war begins my dear)
"But.."
(I'll be holding onto nothing)
"Do cats eat bats?
Do cats eat bats?
Do bats eat.. Cats?"

Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac in 1989 did an album called The Other Side of the Mirror which features a song called "Alice".

Although I haven't heard the song myself, here's a YouTube video featuring the song:

There is a song called Looking Glass by the alternative rock band, Hypnogaja.

It's currently on the band's MySpace page (Last song on the music player) - Hypnogaja's Myspace Page

Lyrics:
There’s a place where the garden can take you
Through the looking glass
Find a way with the plants - they can take you
To your path
Chase away all the funny pain
Down the rabbit hole
And another world awaits behind the little door

You can go ask Alice
Just why the hatter is mad

All are welcome in wonderland
‘Till the queen screams off with your head
And life will always get twisted
When you’re living it through the looking glass

There’s a cat that smiles like
The crescent moon
And the caterpillar that needs a light
On top of his mushroom

You can go ask Alice
Just why the hatter is mad

All are welcome in wonderland
‘Till the queen screams off with your head
And life will always get twisted
When you’re living it through

Next time you see the white rabbit run free
You might not want to follow
Lose your youth ‘cause beauty is truth
It’s just harder to swallow

So go ask Alice
Why the hatter is mad
She’ll turn when you see her
And laugh And laugh

All are welcome in wonderland
‘Till the queen screams off with your head
And life will always get twisted
When you’re living it through the looking glass

(All are welcome in wonderland)
The looking glass
(All are welcome in wonderland)
You're living your life
(All are welcome in wonderland)
‘Till the queen, she screams, off with your head

There’s a place where the garden can take you
Through the looking glass

Alice by the Sisters of Mercy. A dark and gothic song

The band the Birthday Massacre has several songs which titles are taken from the Alice books.
