Soms krijg je een mailtje binnen waarvan je denkt: “Huh??”

Ten eerste moet je het twee keer lezen om te begrijpen waar de afzender het over heeft en ten tweede snap je niet helemaal waar die persoon zich nu precies druk over maakt.

Gisteren ontving ik bijvoorbeeld het volgende:

Your spam filter flagged “Bad Day Uptop” when I tried to post it.  I have attached the file.  Please remove the one warning attached to my name (I have no account).  You can also see the story here:

You can see for yourself that the word “porno” which appears in the story does not lead to anything that is highly offensive.  This is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.  I got kicked off americanmcgee.com for a sequel to Dante’s “The Divine Comedy”:

The more I encounter other sites, the more I appreciate fanfiction.net where I have never been threatened with banning.  I have three stories posted on your site from guest postings.  Please remove them.

Hmmmph!

Okee. Blijkbaar heeft deze persoon geprobeerd een verhaaltje te posten op mijn forum, met daarin het woord ‘porno’. Waarop mijn spamfilter geactiveerd werd en haar mededeelde dat deze post niet door de beugel kon.

Dus ik stuur een net mailtje terug:

Hi <naam>,

I’m sorry you’re upset.

Please understand that my forum spamfilter is automated – it just checks all posts for offensive words and takes action if it finds one. Computers are not able to read posts as humans can, so it didn’t know yours contained a normal story.

If I do not use this spam filter, my forum will be flooded with spam to porno websites in no time. So I hope you can understand why I cannot turn it off.

You can post your message again, changing the word ‘porno’ to something like ‘p.orno’ or ‘p0rn0’, so the spam filter will not be triggered.

Om vervolgens het volgende antwoord te ontvangen:

Sooner or later your spam filter will nail every single one of your posters because it scans the contents of posts, not just the URLs.  Imagine what your spam filter would do to the BBC News website.  Please remove the three stories I listed above.  I don’t want to wait for them to eventually get flagged when you turn your spam filter loose on already existing posts.  Just remove the three stories and you and I will part company.  I’m not coming back.

P.S.  Be careful when you post to your own website.  It would be hilarious if your nasty little “pet” banned you from your own website.

Tss… Sommige mensen zijn gewoon pissed off en er is niets wat je er tegen kunt doen. Ze voelen zich persoonlijk aangevallen en dan kun je wel 100x uitleggen dat dat niet het geval is, ze interpreteren het alleen op hun eigen manier.

Doet me een beetje denken aan alle zeurende mensen die klaagden over het plot van Charm. Ook niks aan te doen, gewoon negeren. En als ze weg willen: lekker laten gaan. Je mist er niets aan.
