Fans of the Three Stooges tend to fall into two camps--those that love Shemp Howard, and those that, quite simply, do not, but one might believe that the pristine presentation of the 25 postwar shorts gathered in The Three Stooges Collection Volume 5 will sway even the most ardent anti-Shemp viewer to reversing his position. Shemp’s involvement with the Stooges goes back to their days in vaudeville with Ted Healy, whose questionable business practices forced him to leave the act and seek stardom on his own, which he achieved in one-reelers and features throughout the ‘30s and ‘40s. He returned to the fold after brother Curly suffered a series of strokes, which forced him to bow out of all shorts after 1947’s "Half-Wits Holiday" (on Disc One). Shemp became a full-time Stooge again in the trio’s 98th short, "Fright Night," and almost immediately established his persona in the group--a blend of Curly’s volcanic man-child and an easily amused goof whose skewed sense of humor drew the wrath of Moe. Whether his performance will win new converts remains to be seen, but some of his best work with the Stooges are compiled on this two-disc set, including "Brideless Groom" (Shemp must get married in 24 hours or lose his inheritance; Stooge supporting player Emil Sitka’s oft-quoted line, "Hold hands, you lovebirds!" from this short is overheard in Pulp Fiction); "Sing a Song of Six Pants" (the boys attempt to corral a fugitive bank robber for the reward money); "Shivering Sherlocks" and "Hot Scots" (two of their best haunted house scenarios, with the hunchback Angel in "Sherlocks" a bizarre highlight); and "Hold That Lion," which features the final screen appearance of Curly Howard in a surprise cameo. As with all previous Three Stooges Collection DVDs, Volume 5 includes a number of shorts that have never been released to disc, including "Lion," "All Gummed Up" and "Pardon My Clutch." --Paul Gaita

- Woo Woo Woo Woo.........Keep um coming. DVD quality is excellent. We liked Curly the best but will probably buy the remainder of the episodes with Shemp as there are quite a few Shemp episodes we like.

- Another first-rate volume of Three Stooges shorts.Eventually, I assume, that, if you collect all of the volumes you will have a complete collection of the shorts of the Three Stooges from 1934 to 1958. And in the best quality anyone could ask for. As good or better than they were when they were first shown in the theaters. With a predominance of crap put out today by the big studios go back in time and re-live the geniuses of yesteryear.

- Wow! somebody finally got it rightAttention stooge fans. You can get some peace. Sony has done it right by releasing all of the Three Stooges shorts on dvd. No more do you have to have to buy selected shorts by Columbia anymore. They are all two disc sets and go in order on how they aare relased. Sony did a good job of 'cleaning them up'. the picture and sound quality are superb throughout. There is no need to review these funny gentleman at all. Mostly all their shorts are funny. You will not find any comedies like this anywhere. Well, Joe Besser was the only stooge that wasn't funny. He came at the end of the Stooge run. So, people of all ages rejoice!! You can finally own all the stooge shorts at a good price!

- Uncut Episodes / Very Clear PictureSony did a SUPERB job creating the DVDs in this new, official Three Stooges set. I bought both Volumes 5 and 6 from Amazon and have no complaints. All episodes are in the original airdate order, back when the Three Stooges were new. Also, all scenes are there, and nothing is cut out like when they are aired on TV. This volume (5) contains the end of Curly and the beginning of Shemp, which they don't air many episodes of on TV (mainly Curly). The picture quality is amazing on both Volumes 5 and 6, and Sony did a great job cleaning speckles and spots during the DVD transfer from film reels that are over 60 years old (this collection is from 1946 to 1948).

- EXCELLENT QUALITY!This series produced and released by Sony is great! The quality of the digitization is excellent. The old b&w film comes alive with sharp, HD-like picture and great sound. I have been a Stooges enthusiast my entire life. I am very happy about this series. I plan to own them all!
