Alice’s Day 2023

Alice’s Day, the yearly city-wide celebration of all things Alice in Wonderland in Oxford, UK, will be held on Saturday 1 July 2023.

This year’s theme is ‘The Great Outdoors’.

As always, there is a full and varied programme, including theatre, puppetry, crafting, trails, dance, games, lectures and more. On many places there will be Alice in Wonderland themed family and kids activities. In Christ Church library you can find an exhibition of the manuscript and other rare material relating to Dodgson and to the Liddell family. Local historian and author Mark Davies will guide a walk through the Oxford of Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice, and the Lewis Carroll Society will organize three talks:

  • Alice in Waterland: Once upon a time in Oxford – a virtual River Thames cruise
    About the fundamental importance of Lewis Carroll’s rowing trips with Alice and her sisters: the real people, places and events on or alongside the river which influenced Carroll’s composition.
  • The Psychogeography of Lewis Carroll: Walking through Wonderland and beyond
    Follows Alice down the rabbit-hole and through the looking-glass into landscapes of the imagination, where she visits royal gardens, enters enchanted forests and explores the sea shore.
  • Filming the Hunting of the Snark – What is true and what is nonsense
    About the making of the new surreal, steampunk movie and the ideas behind it. The full film will be screened that day as well..
