Auction: 1866 edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
12 September 2021
Now for auction at Christies: a copy of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” from 1866!
The 1866 edition is the unofficial second edition, but the official first edition of the book, as the 1865 edition was recalled. It was set by Richard Clay and published by Macmillan & Co.
This copy is the first issue with page 30 correctly numbered, with pale blue endpapers (instead of the more usual dark green), and with the inverted ‘S’ in the last line of the Contents page. It is in a very good condition. Hence the steep price, which is estimated at $20,000-$30,000…

Hello. I have the same book listed above , the 1866 Alice in wonderland. Can I put it up for auction here and how much is it valued at? Thank you
Hi Peggy, do you really own a 1866 edition? That is special!
I am not an auction house, so no, I cannot help you with this.
In the blogpost you commented on you can see the amount for which the other copy sold. But the value of your edition depends on many factors. See also https://www.alice-in-wonderland.net/resources/faq/#oldedition
