Alice in Wonderland exhibition in the British Library

To celebrate 150 years of the publication of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the British Library in London is holding an exhibition about Lewis Carroll’s story, to explore how Alice has captured our imaginations for so many years.

The exhibition displays Lewis Carroll’s original manuscript with hand-drawn illustrations, alongside editions by Mervyn Peake, Ralph Steadman, Leonard Weisgard, Arthur Rackham, Salvador Dali and others. You can also see newly commissioned articles, a selection of manuscripts, reviews and literature relating to Alice in Wonderland, that show how the story has been re-imagined, re-interpreted and re-illustrated over the last 150 years.

Talk about Tenniel’s and Carroll’s illustrations (Oxford, UK – 13 sept. 2015)

This talk by Mark J. Davies, author of “Alice in Waterland” and “Alice’s Oxford on Foot”, will feature the iconic ‘pictures’ of John Tenniel, those of Lewis Carroll, along with his photographs, and reference to the Pre-Raphaelite artists of whom Thomas Combe was a major patron.

Combe, Superintendent of Oxford University Press, oversaw the printing of the first 2,000 copies of the world’s most famous children’s story in June 1865, and also influenced its creation in several other ways.
